Franz Josef... why isn't it Franz Josewh?

Anyway the thing is that the two glaciers of on the South Island fall precipitously down the mountainside into the temperate rainforest. Its only one of three places on the planet where this occurs, the others are in South America.

The hike out to the Franz Josef takes about 30 minutes one way. One will meet the all day tour groups that actually hike up to the ice after scrambling up the steep scree but we were on the move and finished up our day at Murchison in order to make the tour on Doubtful sound on the 13th.

But we did manage to also stop into the Fox Glacier scenic viewpoint at dusk and I managed to snap this interesting photo as well.
