ON to Mount Cook- you'd think it might be nice.. Jaw dropping scenery abounds

The most difficult thing we had to do is content with take out coffee cups with lids that were'nt cutting it.

No, we drove from Oamaru to Twizel and then on to the Sir Edmund Hillary Interpretive Center at Mount Cook, raising up out of the relatively flat Canterbury Plains at the end of Lake Takeki ( something like that). We were able to hike in over a couple of swing bridges on the approach to the Mount Cook Glacier ( much dirtier in appearance than its Fox and Franz Josef cousins on the west side) and a wonderful raging river leading out onto the plain.

All around a magnificent panorama. pictures to come.

A 5:00 we left for Fairlee on route back to Christchurch, still undecided about visiting Hamner Springs. Our New Zealand journey is almost concluded... but not yet.

and there is still New Caledonia to come!

Wow, what a vacation.
